World Oldest Rock Drawings discovered in Iran
Some of the oldest rock drawings were uncovered by Dr. Mohammed Naserifard, an Iranian archeologist. They were discovered at the top of an untouched hillside near Khomeyn, Iran. This makings, only seen by a few people, could be tens of thousands of years old.
He has discovered about 50,000 ancient paintings and engravings since 2000. In 2008, Netherland archaeology experts visited the site. They believed these drawings could be more than 40,000 years old.
One of the most striking paintings is an ibex deer with curled horns with 40,000 years old.
“I was so excited, finding these works was like finding treasure,” Dr. Naserifard told AFP. “But sanctions have deprived us of the technology. We hope we can soon bring this technology to Iran and gain more accurate and scientific information on these engravings.”
